Shavings Make A Pile

One of my colleagues said this a while ago and it stuck with me. I hand drew a pile of sticks on my whiteboard, but I thought slivers of chocolate made for a better visual.

When you are working on a project you often work in phases.

Phases where only one scrap of the overall project is completed.

Each scrap might be considered a shaving.

Each shaving goes onto the pile.

As the pile grows ... you know you are getting somewhere.

Pro Tip: Keep at it. Keep getting those shavings.

As small as they might seem.

As slow as they might seem to be coming.

Those shavings add up.

As you keep working at them they eventually make a pile.

The pile is evidence of your hard work.

Persistence Matters!

Keep it up!

If it's worth doing ... it's worth keeping at it.

  • What Shavings Have You Collected Today?
  • Were they from the right project?
  • The one that you should be working on?

---

Take the time to examine your shavings pile.

You may discover you are building the wrong piles.

If so, think about the tools you are using and the material you are working with.

Change them accordingly.
