What a Bodysurfer and SharePoint have in Common

This was the first slide in my presentation about the Future of SharePoint – at the SharePoint Saturday Redmond event.

You may be thinking …

What does a bodysurfer have to do with SharePoint?

Well let me tell you.

Like the bodysurfer in this picture this is how we want our SharePoint deployments to go.

Riding with the flow, all the energy is going in just the right direction in perfect balance, and with complete transparency to see what’s going on.

However, just like with our SharePoint deployments a slight miscalculation can send the whole thing crashing down.

Of course, unlike the single wave at a time that a bodysurfer can catch this is why we have backup plans and failsafe options. Like a bodysurfer that needs to keep an eye on the horizon for the next wave. SharePoint deployments also come in waves … portals, dashboards, and mobile are a few of the waves that have hit the SharePoint deployment shores. One of the next big waves will be all about data … Big Data … if you prefer. And the ability to bring this data to the surface.

I liked this picture because it’s dramatic and it highlights an important element of the story about the Future of SharePoint.

FOSP is all about Surfacing Data in SharePoint

The systems being connected to SharePoint are getting more diverse and are getting more distributed around the globe. Just like waves in the ocean that are generated far offshore a lot of the data that will be surfaced in SharePoint will be generated in far away places. This is not a problem for SharePoint because it’s been purpose built to consume this information and surface it in a predictable and repeatable manner.

If the embedded link above does not work. Here is the link the whole preso.

If you liked this presentation please use it. It is shared under Creative Commons license --- all I ask is that you attribute it back to me. If you have an event where you would like me to present this presentation please let me know. I have had several requests to do this already and I thought I’d open it up to you.

Enjoy and Ride the Wave!

The Future of SharePoint is here and it’s all about Data!

SharePoint users utilize data flow to facilitate collaboration and information sharing, akin to a bodysurfer using the ocean's natural flow. They require adaptability to changing organizational requirements. SharePoint facilitates collaboration through shared workspaces, allowing numerous users to access documents and resources. Mastering SharePoint's complex features requires expertise.estate planning lawyer near me
