The year 2020 has been chaotic to say the least.
For many in developed countries this will be relatively easy. There are stockpiles of vaccine being delivered now. Ignoring for a moment the poorly executed roll out from within the various government organizations. These logistical challenges will be overcome. Incompetent governments will not be able to stand in the way for long.
But, there is a problem.
It may take until 2023 until developing countries and people in remote corners of the globe can be vaccinated.
The key elements to getting the vaccine to the masses ... all 7.3 Billion of them are threefold:
- Development - the hard work is done. scientists from around the world collaborated to make it so.
- Manufacturing - again, the hard work is done.
- Distribution - the hard work is just starting. As we've seen the roll out has be fraught with errors.
Not Fun Fact: In the USA "Operation Warp Speed" had initial success with steps 1 and 2. They clearly did not have a plan for step 3.
What Happens if it takes to 2023?
The risk is that the virus might mutate enough that the current slate of vaccines may become less effective. Whereby the efficacy could be reduced. And, we have to go back to step 1.
This is all the more reason the get and keep the three key elements fired up and running at full speed. Perhaps with an international body to oversee each phase. I'll leave smarter minds to address this.
